1. Excellent article about Jesus and the
religious right
2. Two articles by a woman regarding
Christianity and those who support the war
3. Talking values versus living them
4. The Democratic "we"
5. A very good synopsis of our economic
vulnerability
*********
Items 1 and 2 may be of some use for those
of you who find yourself in dialogue with "fundamentalist" or
"evangelical" Christians who support Bush and the war all the way.
1. This is very timely, given an encounter
we had at Peace Plaza last Saturday during our vigil. Says what a lot
of us who were raised on the gospels of Jesus have been thinking since
the election.
2. First she wrote "no longer a
Christian", then followed with a second article in response to over
2500 e-mails she received.
3. More food for thought on how the right
and the left look at the values issue - I found this one helpful
because it suggests that our values are the same, but we differ on how
they are expressed. Also, if you haven't read anything by George
Lakoff I suggest you google his name and read it!!! I just finished
Don't Think of an Elephant, a very enlightening book.
4. It's stuff like this that makes me
think there is little hope for reform of the Democratic Party - though
I suppose one could take a very long term view, work at the local and
maybe state levels to create a whole new cadre of leaders who would
eventually rise up and maybe displace some of these Republican-lite
types.
5. This explains pretty clearly why the
Bush administration's attitudes regarding US unilateralism and
disregard of consequences are as foolhardy as they come. We won't need
another terrorist attack to complete the job, their economic
mismanagement will do just fine.
